American Horror Story Renewed for Season 7 on FX
You can rest easy American Horror Story fans: In a totally expected move, FX has officially renewed the series for a seventh season. Phew.
"Ryan, Brad and their team of remarkable writers have done an amazing job of keeping American Horror Story endlessly inventive, shocking and entertaining and we are honored to move ahead with them on the seventh installment," John Landgraf, CEO of FX Networks and FX Productions, said in a statement. "The sustained success through six installments only proves how intensely the series resonates with fans. AHS confronts our deepest fears with unmatched suspense and style. Each new installment is a cultural event, hotly anticipated for its theme, imagery, cast and twists. We thank the creators and their team, the cast and everyone who has continued to make AHS such an extraordinary series."
To date, the series from Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk has won 15 Emmys. So far, the debut of season six, American Horror Story: Roanoke, has been seen by more than 13 million viewers across platforms. The sixth season stars Sarah Paulson, Kathy Bates, Cuba Gooding Jr., Lily Rabe, Evan Peters, Wes Bentley, Cheyenne Jackson, Angela Bassett, Andre Holland and Denis O'Hare. And yes, Lady Gaga is in it.
Of course no plot details were revealed, but Murphy has said he has the theme already and is looking ahead at season eight too. There's also a secret season in the works.
"It's my secret season," Murphy told EW. "I've been working with a writer on a season that only he and I know." Murphy said there's no date for this season yet, but work is being done. "It's one person writing all episodes. The whole show has been a great joy to me because it's an experiment."
The series is showing no signs of slowing down. In fact, Landgraf told press at TCA that they haven't talked about an end date yet.
"We haven't talked about," Landgraf said. "All good things must come to an end, but...[as long as] Ryan keeps coming up with new and original ends and the audience wants to see it…As long as you can keep coming up with new ideas you can keep going…it's only the limits of [the] stories and imaginations that end the show. Only time will tell."
American Horror Story: Roanoke airs Wednesdays, 10 p.m. on FX.
