Disgusting: This Georgia Officer Shot Herself And Said a Black Man Did It
Details on this absurd case.
A police officer in Georgia is currently being investigated after issuing false statements claiming that a Black man shot her before fleeing the scene.
The claim, which has since been deemed to not be true, was made by officer Sherry Hall, who is now being charged with issuing false statements, tampering, interference with government property and a violation of oath of office, according to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.
According to the reports, Hall had checked into a health facility seeking assistance, after saying during a police radio call that a Black man had shot her in the abdomen while she was wearing her bulletproof vest and fled the scene immediately after.
“After following leads and evidence, the investigation has now revealed that there is no, and never was, a suspect shooter at large in Jackson, Georgia,” Joe Wooten, special agent in charge of GBI’s Milledgeville office, said in a statement.
As reported, Hall first came forward to state that she didn’t have her cruiser’s video and audio recording equipment on at the time of the incident, but an investigation led to officers uncovering a video on the hard drive, proving her initial statement false. On top of that, investigators shared that the officer also failed to disclose that she had a second department-issued handgun.
Hall allegedly planted a shell casing from the gun on the scene to back up her claim she was shot. Butts County officials declined to comment on whether or not the officer shot herself.
Hall has been placed on leave while the investigation continues.
Jackson police Chief James Morgan referred to the charges as “an unfortunate incident,” with Butts County Sheriff calling the situation a “horrific event,” and referring to Hall as “a criminal.”
